Description

Keeping alive the quintessence of Lucknow Chikan embroidery, Ethnava introduces an exclusive Hand Embroidered Georgette Palla Border Chikan Saree. The allure of Lucknowi Chikan kari expressed with signature Chikan stitch Bakhiya formed with white cotton thread. Details make all the difference, Lucknowi Chikan kari is exquisite and intricate hand embroidery which amalgamates fine artwork details.

This pink georgette chikan saree is a supreme example of impeccable artistry on the finest and luxurious fabric.  This designer collection is finely and neatly hand embroidered with traditional white colour threads on Pallu, Border and all over Booti. It has exquisite chikan embroidery of “Bakhiya” and “Phanda”.

According to a legend, a Begum saw this design on the appliqué dress of a British lady and wanted the same effect in embroidery on her dress. And this is how the bakhiya stitch of chikankari was born in the 18th century.

This type of stitch is known for its double back and shadow work. It’s mostly done from the wrong side of the fabric and the actual design on the front end is rendered in herringbone style. The shadow of the thread is seen on the cloth from the right side. In industry, it is also known as “Ulti” and “Seedhi” Bakhiya.

Shadow work is one of the most popular stitches, in this stitch the filling is done on the wrong side while the design is bounded by a running stitch on the right side of the fabric to give it a neat look, since the stitch is made on the reverse side of the fabric, resembling the herringbone stitch.

From the lanes of Old Lucknow, we bring you the magnificent traditional chikan embroidery which has been passed down from generations to generations. Expert craftsmen weave these amazing designs with perfection and precise detailing. This charming special piece from Ethnava is hand embroidered cream chikan saree with georgette material.

During the Nawabi rule of Lucknow, the highfalutin ladies of that era employed chikankari workers for their personal attendance and adorned themselves in the best attires hand crafted by the nimble fingers of these artisans. To create newer designs different stitches were to be used. One such stitch was introduced as Ghas patti, which is in the form of grass blades stacked in a row. An improvisation was done in this stitch by parting it from the centre, like it is in done in a hairstyle, thus it is called maangdaar Ghas patti.

Phanda refers to knots that are in the shape of Millets. Phanda is considered to be a more intricate version of stitches. However, the knots are much smaller and far more delicate. Mostly utilised in making the centre of the flowers in simple Chikan kari design motifs. It is a knot type of a millet shaped stitch.
