  • Sleek, feminine and definitely a stylish pick, this Baby Pink Georgette Saree is ready to get the spotlight the minute one walks out of the doorsteps. Spruced up with the finest of chikankari stitch- ‘Bakhiya or Shadow work’, this saree envelops the body in the most enticing way. A perfectly crafted saree, the scintillating details of ‘Bakhiya’ stitches put-downs the artistic stories of Lucknowi chikan embroidery on a vibrant faux georgette saree.
  • The main stitches in Chikanare Bhakia or shadow work, which is one of the most delicate stitches in Chikankari done on fine muslin and has an opalescent ‘shadowy’ effect. The thread is massed on the underside of the fabric so as to create a shadow or opaque on the face of the fabric which is typical of this form of embroidery. The shadow is created by closed Herringbone stitch on the reverse side of the fabric, at times it seems to appear like a delicate patchwork
  • Bakhiya or ‘shadow work’ is actually one of the most creative and unique forms of embroidery contained in Chikankari. In this stitch the filling is done on the wrong side while the design is bounded by a running stitch on the right side of the fabric to give it a neat look, since the stitch is made on the reverse side of the fabric, resembling the herringbone stitch. It brings out the vastness of this craft. Not only does Chikankari come alive in the form of embroidery on the face of a fabric, but it also embraces the fabric from below to create a shadow which fills up patterns. This stitch is one of the many tributes to the wholesomeness of Chikankari!

Add on to the saree

It can be worn with puff sleeved blouses, crop tops, or a bell sleeved blouse. It can also be fashioned with a contemporary version of ‘Dhoti’, and worn as the trendy half-saree. It can also be paired with a belt to give you that coveted mix of old and new! As the embroidery of Chikankari is detailed and heavy, it does well to lose excessive jewellery. A simple oversized or minimal pair of earrings shall suffice to complement the ensemble. The look can be topped off with an elegant watch or bracelet, to give the finishing touches.

Chikankari Trivia

Chikankari is one of the most traditional embroidery styles from Lucknow, it is believed that this embroidery has introduced in the 17thcentury by Noor Jahan, Mughal emperor Jahangir’s wife in India. Noor Jahan was a known talented embroiderer with a particular found of Chikankari work. In this era, the mostly fabric was used like Muslin or Mulmul as they were best suited for the warm, humid climate. In the 18th and 19th century, after the loss of the Empire Chikankari artisans spread all over India and founded various re-established centers.
