Ethnava chikankari Peach Cotton Saree

  • Fragile threads adorned in delicate designs on exquisite fabrics, Chikankari has its own brand of deliberate and detailed art work. Over the years, Chikankari has evolved, as all forms of art have. It now flaunts modernist features in its styling. However, like many other art forms, Chikankari has not strayed from its traditionalist embroidery. We, at Ethnava, maintain this unwavering loyalty of the craft to its traditionalism, while also adopting the ever evolving modernity of fashion in the cut, style and make of our product.
  • This gorgeous ethnic peach chikan saree has been created with perfection using green and blue cotton threads on cotton cloth, creating detailed floral patterns and motifs on the fabric. Intricate chikan stitch “Ulta Bakhiya” has been used to adorn the fabric of the lucknow saree.
  • Ulti Bakhiya is criss crossing of thread work on fabric, reverse of shadow work. It gives the look as if the embroidery is itself the texture of the garment. The floats lie on the reverse of the fabric underneath the motif. The transparent muslin becomes opaque and provides a beautiful effect of light and shade.
  • The floats of threads lie on the wrong side of the fabric, thereby making a transparent muslin, opaque.‘Floats of thread’ in very simple language refer to the ‘criss-cross’ pattern made in this stitch. This type of chikan stitch actually creates a very interesting effect of light and shadow.

Add on to the saree

It can be worn with puff sleeved blouses, crop tops, or a bell sleeved blouse. It can also be fashioned with a contemporary version of ‘Dhoti’, and worn as the trendy half-saree. It can also be paired with a belt to give you that coveted mix of old and new! As the embroidery of Chikankari is detailed and heavy, it does well to lose excessive jewellery. A simple oversized or minimal pair of earrings shall suffice to complement the ensemble. The look can be topped off with an elegant watch or bracelet, to give the finishing touches.

Chikankari Trivia

  • Chikankari, the finest white embroidery is an art from Persia. However, its origin is a debatable matter, but all the possibilities of its origin suggest that this embroidery was introduced into the Indian subcontinent with the landing of Persians.
  • Chikan, in the literal sense means ’embroidery’. This traditional embroidery style is one of Lucknow’s most ancient and well-known art forms, believed to be introduced by the Mughals. The simple and precise handwork on the garment, gives it a very subtle, classy feel that modern embroidery techniques lack. The main essence of the garment is a simple design, and while motifs are now added to make the garment look rich, it still remains a simple and affordable fabric choice.
